Tim Hummel, a native of Montgomery, NY, was the 2000 CAA Player of the Year and CAA Defensive Player of the Year. A consensus All-American, the shortstop was named first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, the ABCA Coaches, Baseball Weekly and the College Baseball Writers Association and second team by Baseball America. Hummel was a three-time All-CAA selection and the 1998 CAA Rookie of the Year. In 2000, he helped lead the Monarchs to the NCAA regionals after sharing the regular season title with ECU. That year he hit .408 with a CAA best 21 doubles, walked 55 times and scored a CAA best 68 runs. His .963 fielding percentage with only 11 errors is an ODU best for shortstops in a single season. Hummel's .508 career on base percentage is the highest in ODU and CAA history. Hummel was also selected to the Clemson NCAA Regional All-Tournament team. And was a two-time CoSIDA District III Academic All-American selection. Tim was the 52nd player selected in the 2000 Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago White Sox. He played two years in the majors for the Cincinnati Reds and now resides in Virginia Beach with wife Brooke (former ODU lacrosse player),their son Noah. Hummel, who graduated with a degree in health and physical education is currently head baseball coach at Cape Henry Collegiate.
