NORFOLK, VA--Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) and Jake McAloose (VA. Beach, Va.) each had two hits and Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE). knocked in two runs as Old Dominion (1-0) opened the season with a 7-4 win over the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Friday afternoon.

The Monarchs scored atleast one run in each of the first six innings. Mike Zahm singled home Miles in the first and his ground out plated Miles again in the fourth. Miles tripled and stole two bases on the day.

Sophomore righthanders Dan Hudson (VA. Beach, Va. and Ross Fetterly (Norfolk,Va.) combined for the win. Hudson pitched the first five innings, fanning five, while Fetterly pitched the last four with five strikeouts.

UMES was led by Eric Gaines with two hits and two runs scored. Ken Richardson and Joel Gonzales each knocked in a run for the Hawks. The same two team play again on Saturday at the Bud Metheny Complex beginning at 1 p.m.
