NORFOLK, VA-Junior pre-season All-American Justin Verlander (Goochland, VA.) pitched a complete game, scattering six hits, walked one,and fanned seven in leading the Monarchs of Old Dominion University to a 7-0 victory over Navy in the season opener Friday night.

Sophomore Steven Harris (Va. Beach, VA.) led ODU with three hits and two runs batted in. In the first inning, Harris doubled home Brandon Carter (Sacramento, CA), and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.).

Carter, Strick and Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) each had two hits on the day for the Monarchs who had 11 hits. Pete Curnow led Navy with three hits on the evening.

The two teams will play again on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
