NORFOLK, VA--Senior catcher Patrick Nichols (Chesapeake, VA.) knocked in four runs on three hits to lead the Old Dominion University Monarchs (4-0) to a 10-2 non-conference victory over crosstown rival Norfolk State University Spartans(2-5).

Nichols doubled in Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) in the second, singled in Cipolla and Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.)in the fifth and hit a solo homer in the seventh. Junior outfielder Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) had two hits and two RBI on the day. Bryan Cipolla and Jesse Schoendienst each had two hits as well. Cipolla and Nichols each scored twice.

On the mound, Junior righthander Hunter Hall (Virginia Beach, VA.) picked up the win. He worked five-plus innings giving up two runs, while Dana Arrowood fanned three and freshman Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.) struckout two.

NSU had 12 hits on the day as Terrance Smith, Charles LeLane each had two. NSU scored in the sixth on RBI singles from Jose Torres and LeLane.

ODU travels to Charlottesville, VA. to take on the Cavaliers of the University of Virginia Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
