LYNCHBURG, VA-- The Liberty Flames defeated ODU, 7-6 Tuesday afternoon at Worthington Field. The Monarchs were led by Justin Grugula Washington,PA.) with three runs batted in on two hits. Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) added three hits on the day.

Liberty scored five runs in the first on a solo homer by Aaron Grijalva and a two-run single by Chad Miller. Four of the Flames runs were unearned.

Cipolla slammed a solo homer in the second and Gregula singled home Patrick Nichols(Chesapeake, VA.) later in the inning. ODU cut Liberty's lead to 6-4 in the fourth as Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.) walked with the bases loaded and Keith Hahn's (Valley Stream, NY.) fielders choice plated Nichols.

In the seventh, ODU scored two more runs as Gregula singled home C.J. Jacinto and Cipolla to make it 7-6. In the top of the ninth Cipolla led off with a single and Jacinto singled with one out, but Liberty reliver David Bechtold got out of the jam for the save.

ODU out hit Liberty, 11-8 as Cipolla had three hits, Keith Hahn and Gregula each had two hits.

The Monarchs return home to host Virginia (2-1) Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm at the Bud Metheny Complex.
