NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University baseball completed a three-game weekend sweep of Temple with a 2-0 win over the Owls on Sunday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Andy Roberts tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings in his first start of the year while Brad Gero earned the win in relief allowing just one hit in 2 1/3 innings. Brandon Smith pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the year.

In a well-pitched game, the Monarchs struck twice in the sixth inning for the only runs of the game. Tyler Urps led off the inning with a walk and Austin McGowan crushed the first pitch he saw for a double to right center to score Urps. Ben Verlander laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance McGowan to third and McGowan scored on a wild pitch.

The pitching of Roberts, Gero and Smith allowed just four temple hits. Patrick Peterson went six innings for the Owls, allowing four hits and two earned runs, picking up the loss.

The Monarchs moved to 6-3 on the year after the sweep while the Owls fall to 2-6.
