Post-Game Recap:

NORFOLK, VA-- Junior outfielder Shawn Sizemore (Newport News, VA.) and senior outfielder Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.) each drove in two runs,but the Flames of Liberty (13-1) defeated the Monarchs (3-8), 10-6 Tuesday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Liberty was led by designated hitter Alex Close who knocked in four runs on two homers on the day. He slammed a three-run shot in the first inning, then hit a solo homer in the third. Ryan Cordell also hit a two-run homer for Liberty in the third.

 

 

Trailing, 4-0 in the bottom of first, ODU's Chris Baker doubled home senior shortstop Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA. and freshman centerfielder Josh Eldridge (Lorton, VA.) to make it, 4-2.

In the fourth inning Shawn Sizemore singled up the middle to plate Brent Frazier (Fairfax Station, VA.) and senior catcher Josh Tutwiler (Bridgewater, VA.) led off the fifth inning with a solo homer, his first of the season. In the Seventh inning Sizeore singled home Brent Frazier and in the eighth Chris Baker scored on a double play ball.

ODU pounded out a season best 18 hits led by Shawn Sizemore, Josh Eldridge, and Brandon Shelton(Chesapeake, VA.) with three hits each. Chris Baker, Josh Tutwiler and Austin McGowan (Midlothian, VA.) had two hits a piece.

The Monarchs open CAA play this weekend with a three-game series against Delaware. First pitch is Friday at 6 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
