NORFOLK, VA. -- The Norfolk Tides (N.Y. Mets AAA Affiliate )defeated Old Dominion in the annual Metrocall Scholarship Baseball Classic, 4-1 Tuesday night at Harbor Park, in front of a crowd of 2,695. Derek James knocked in Brent Sollenberger for the Monarchs run in the sixth inning.

The Tides scored two runs in the third as Jose Reyes homered to lead off the third inning. Jorge Toca knocked in Russ Johnson to make it 2-0. In the fourth, the Tides added two more runs as Matt Watson tripled home Joe DePastino and Jorge Velandia. The Tides pitchers pitched for both teams.

ODU returns to action Wednesday night when they travel to crosstown rival Norfolk State for a 7 p.m. contest.
