Box Score

NORFOLK, VA-Senior Matt Prendergast tossed a complete game five hitter to lead the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth(21-13/7-2) to a 5-1 Colonial Athletic Association win over Old Dominion (13-19/3-6) Sunday after noon.

The Monarchs scored first as Brandon Carter (Sacramento, CA.) doubled with two outs and scored on Stephen Harris' (Va. Beach, Va.-Kellam HS) single in the first inning. Both Carter and Harris had two hits on the day.

VCU came back in the second when Barrett Ripley hit a solo homer to rightfield. In the third inning, Joe Meador led off with a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Granato. In the seventh inning, Meador, Scott Sizemore, and Granato each had run scoring singles to give the Rams a 5-1 lead.

Prendergast completes his second game of the season and runs his record to 7-0. He fanned four and walked only one batter. In the sixth inning, Carter and Harris singled with two outs for the Monarchs, but Prendergast forced a groundout to retire the side.

ODU travels to Duke on Tuesday, then returns home to play Richmond Wednesday night.
