NEWARKE, DE-- Junior righthander Donnie Smith (Portsmouth, VA.) pitched a complete game three-hitter and fanned a career high 12 batters to lead Old Dominion to a 14-2 CAA victory over Delaware Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs pounded out a season high 19 hits and 14 runs. Senior Allen Strick had three hits, including a grand slam home run in the ninth. He knocked in five runs on the day. Freshman Bryan Cipolla had four hits and two runs batted in, while Brandon Carter, and Derek James each knocked in two runs.

Delaware took a 2-0 lead in the second when catcher Brian Valichka slammed a two-run homer. The Monarchs came back in the fourth when Derek James slammed a two-run shot with Steven Harris aboard. ODU took the lead in the fifth as Carter's groundout plated Keith Hahn.
