HEMPSTEAD, NY--Hofstra rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Old Dominion, 8-7 Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs are 18-18 overall and 9-9 in the CAA.

ODU broke a five-all tie when Jake McAloose led off the ninth with a solo home run. Jimmy Miles then singled home Gerard Hall to give the Monarchs a 7-5 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth Matt Kougasian singled home Matt Prokopowicz to cut the lead to 7-6. With the bases loaded and two outs, Hofstra scored two runs on a Monarch throwing error on a ground ball from David Cole to end the game.

ODU jumped out to a 5-0 lead led by the hitting of David Burns. The senior leftfielder it a solo homer, his third of the series in the third to give ODU a 3-0 lead. He then doubled home Max Most in the fourth to make it 4-0. Jimmy Miles and Max Most each knocked in runs in the second inning

Hofstra came back in the sixth when David Cole hit a grand-slam homerun To cut ODU's lead to one at 5-4. The Pride tied the game in the seventh when Mat Prokopowicz hit a solo homer.

ODU pounded out 16 hits on the day led by Chris Keenan and David Burns with three. Jimmy Miles, Max Most, Bryan Cipolla and Jake McAloose each had two hits.

Dan Hudson pitched five-plus innings , fanning eight, walking five. He now leads The CAA in strikeouts with 75 in 60.1 innings of work.

 

 

ODU and Hofstra play the third game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
