NORFOLK, VA--Mike McGuire and Billy Harris scattered six hits and fanned 12 batters to lead the University of Delaware (16-19/5-5) to 4-2 CAA victory over Old Dominion (20-23/4-9) Friday evening.

McGuire struckout nine batters in seven innings, walking two and allowing just four hits. Harris pitched the final two innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out three for his second save of the year.

Brian Valichka singled home Todd Davison in the first inning to give the Fightin' Blue Hens a 1-0 lead. ODU tied the game in the third as CAA RBI leader Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) singled home Jesse Schoendienst (Belcamp, MD.).

Dan Kozek doubled to leftcenter to knock in Dan Richardson and Brandon Menchaca to make it 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning. UD added another run in the eighth as Valichka beat the throw to home plate on Menchaca's grounder.

In the ODU bottom of the ninth, Eric Mesa led off with a bunt single. Brooks Sinnen followed with a single, and while he was in a run down, between first and second, the Blue Hens commited an error allowing Mesa to score.

Mesa led ODU with two hits, while Brian Valichka led Delaware with two hits. The two teams play game two of the series Saturday at 5 p.m.
