NORFOLK, VA--The University of Delaware defeated Old Dominion twice Sunday, 5-3 in the completion of the suspended game and 16-4 in the regular scheduled game. In doing so, the Blue Hens (18-19/ 7-5) sweep the three-game weekend series from the Monarchs (20-25/4-11).

In the completion of the Saturday suspended game, Dan Kozek hit a solo homer to put UD up, 1-0 in the third. In the fourth Brian Valichka homered to make it, 2-0. Todd Davison singled home Ryan Graham and Kelly Buber's groundout plated Davison. The Blue Hens final run came in the ninth as Dan Richardson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home Adam Tsakonas.

In the ODU fifth Steven Harris scored on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Jesse Schoendienst singled home Patrick Nichols, then Harris would later score on a Blue Hen error. Harris and Schoendienst led ODU with three hits each. Brent Gephardt picked up the win with six strikeouts in five-plus innings Billy Harris, who got the save on Friday night did the same thing in this contest.

In the regularly scheduled game, Delaware pounded out 20 hits as Brian Valichka, Adam Tsakonas and Brandon Menchaca each knocked in three runs. Ryan Graham knocked in two runs. Scott Rambo with relief help from Kevin Brown and Chad Kerfoot picked up his fifth win of the year.

ODU was led by Chris Keenan who knocked in two runs with a bases loaded walk in the sixth and a double which drove in Eric Mesa in the eighth. Jesse Schoendienst's groundball out scored Steven Harris in the eighth. The final ODU run came on a solo homer by C.J. Jacinto in the ninth, his fourth in a week.

 

 

ODU will break for exams and return to action on May 6th against VCU in the Petersburg Sports Complex.
