PHILADELPHIA,PA.-- Sophomore righthander Justin Verlander (Goochland, VA.) held Drexel hitless for seven plus innings, then finished with a three-hitter as the Monarchs defeated the Dragons, 7-3 in a CAA contest Friday afternoon.

Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) knocked in three runs, and Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) knocked in two runs for ODU. Chipman knocked in Gregula in the fifth and sixth, and Joe Moore (WOodbridge, VA.) in the eighth. Gregula, who had three hits on the day, knocked in Pedro Pena (Haverhill, MA.) and Steven Harris (Va. Beach, Va.) in the sixth inning.

Going into the seventh, Verlander had only allowed a walk to Brent Heaberlin in the first and he hit Jason Bailey with a pitch in the fifth. With two outs in the seventh, Luke Sundheim singled, moved to second on an error, then scored on a single by Jeff Lamb. Drexel scored two more unearned runs in the ninth. Verlander fanned nine, walked two for his sixth win of the year.

The two teams will play Saturday at 1:00 at Drexel.
