Northeastern Defeats ODU, 13-3

BROOKLINE, MASS -- ODU Freshman Michael Perez and senior Josh Wright each had two hits but Northeastern pounded out 17 hits, including two homers for a 13-3 CAA victory over the Monarchs Friday afternoon. ODU (18-30/8-17)scored first with an unearned run in the second inning. Senior catcher Josh Tutwiler led off with a double, moved to third when Mike Perez reached on a pass ball. Tutwiler then scored from third when Austin McGowan hit into a double play. ODU added another run in the third inning.Senior Brandon Shelton led off with a hit, followed by a Josh Wright double. Shelton scored on a groundout RBI by freshman Josh Eldridge Eldridge. ODU's third run came in the fourth inning on an RBI single by McGowan which plated Perez for a 3-0 lead. Northeastern (19-26/9-16)rallied in the fourth with six runs highlighted by a three-run double by Oliver Hart and a two run homer by Connor Lyons. In the bottom of the seventh Michael Fonseca slammed a three-run homer to left field for a 9-3 Huskie lead, his sixth of the season. Northeastern then added four more runs in the eighth. Aaron Barbosa and Jon Leroux each had three hits for Northeastern and shortstop Oliver Hart knocked in four runs. The two teams play Saturday at 12 noon at Northeastern's Friedman Diamond.
