HEMPSTEAD, NY-- Josh Stern's three-run homer and Ricky Caputo's run scoring double capped off a ten-run eighth inning rally at Hofstra (22-29/8-14) defeated ODU (22-28/5-14) in a CAA contest.

Bryan Cipolla knocked in four runs for ODU which now gives him 65 runs batted in.

ODU took an early lead with ten runs in the third inning. Bryan Cipolla and Tyler Belcher each doubled in runs and Evan Chipman had two hits in the inning, including a two run single his second time up.

ODU increased the lead to 13-4 when Cipolla slammed his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning.

With ODU up 14-7 in the bottom of the eight, the Pride began their rally. Mike Walsh started things with a two-run homer. With the score 14-11, osh Stern slammed a three-run homer off James Burok to tie the score. Two batters later, Ricky Caputo doubled home pinch runner Steve Conley to give Hofstra its first lead at 15-14.

Dan Lux picked up the win in relief. He pitched two scoreless innings and Jeff Denlea picked up his seventh save of the year which now leads the CAA(Burok is second with six).

Bryan Cipolla led ODU with two hits and four runs batted in, while Evan Chipman had two hits and three runs batted in. Eric Mesa and Tyler Belcher each had two hits. Every Monarch scored atleast once on the day. Cipolla now has 65 runs batted in.

Hofstra not only pounded out 22 hits, but stole nine bases led by Andy Campana with five and Josh Stewart with three.

The two teams will play the second game of the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
