NORFOLK, VA-Old Dominion pounded out 18 hits for the second straight day and defeated Hofstra, 16-7 Saturday evening. The victory, coupled with William and Mary's 8-3 win over JMU clinches a spot for the Monarchs in the CAA Tournament, May 25-29 in Wilmington, NC. ODU has also extended its winning streak to nine straight.

ODU is now 24-24 overall and 11-9 in the CAA.

Justin Gregula (Washington, PA.) led ODU with four hits in four atbats, while Steven Harris (Va.Beach, VA.-Kellam HS) knocked in five runs. Harris singled in a run in ODU's seven-run fifth and slammed a three-run homer in ODU's six-run seventh inning. Derek James (Terre Haute, IN.) tripled home two runs in the fifth and singled home a run in the first. Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) and Keith Hahn (Valley Stream, NY.) each had three hits on the day. Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.)and Derek James knocked in three runs each. Cipolla slammed a three-run shot in the fifth inning.

Sophomore Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC.) picked up his first win of the season with relief help from James Burok (Archbald, PA.) and Joseph Johannes (Va.Beach, VA.- Kempsville HS).

Josh Stewart led Hofstra with three hits and three runs batted in. Stewart reached base with a single, a home run, a double and was hit with a pitch. His two-run shot in the top of the fifth put the Pride up 3-2. Eric Balson doubled home two runs in the sixth, and Mike Perullo hit a solo homerun in the third inning.

 

 

The two teams finish the series Sunday at 2 p.m. which will also be senior day for Kevin Heninger (Va.Beach, VA.-Salem HS), Allen Strick (Glen Burnie,MD.), Derek James and Joe Moore (Woodbridge, VA.).
