    CHARLESTON, SC. (Feb. 9, 2001) -- Chris Burke had three hits, Javi Herrera had two hits and two RBI, and relief pitcher Brandon Crowe pitched four shutout innings as Tennessee, ranked 26th by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL defeated the Monarchs, 10-4 in the first round of the BERKELY ELECTRIC/CITADEL SHOOTOUT.

    The Monarchs were led by junior thirdbaseman Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) with two hits and an rbi. Freshman Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.) knocked in a run and senior secondbaseman Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va.) had two hits.

    Senior righthander Shawn Weaver (0-1) took the loss as he pitched six innings allowing eight runs. Crowe came on in the fifth for the volunteers, fanning four and allowing only three hits in relief to pick up the win.

    The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they play host Citadel at 5 p.m.. the Bulldogs defeated Richmond Friday, 7-5. Mike Hoover is the Monarchs scheduled starter.
