    CHARLESTON, S.C. (Feb. 11) -- Senior rightfielder Brennan Dees tied his career high with five hits including two home runs to lead South Carolina past Old Dominion 16-3, in game number eight of the Berkeley Electric Cooperative Shootout, in Riley Park.

    South Carolina (6-0) was led by Dees' 5-for-5 effort, that included a double, four runs scored and three RBI. Junior centerfielder Marcus McBeth also added two home runs and three RBI to lead the No. 8 ranked Gamecocks on Sunday afternoon. Backup catcher Tim Whitaker also had a busy day at the plate, going 4-for-4 including three doubles and four RBI.

    Old Dominion (0-3) dropped their third straight game, while senior right-hander J.D. Jackson(Sallissaw,OK.) lost his first decision of the season, going four innings allowing six earned runs. Offensively, the Monarchs were led by sophomore centerfielder Brent Sollenberger(Chambersburg, Pa.) who compiled two hits and two RBI to account for 2/3 of the Monarchs scoring. He also had two hits yesterday against The Citadel.

    Junior left-hander Gary Bell pitched 6.1 innings allowing only one earned run and striking out eight to pick up his second victory of the season.

    The Monarchs return for their home opener against Rutgers. The three game series begins Friday at 3 p.m. The Scarlet Knights were a number one seed in last years NCAA Tournament.
