Monarchs Host Rutgers In Weekend Series

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs return to action this weekend with a three-game series against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers beginning Friday at 1 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. Game was moved up because of weather moving into the Hampton Roads area.
Leading Rutgers in hitting is outfielder Vinney Zarrillo at .545, followed by infielder Charlie Law at .333 and catcher Steve Zavala at .300. Rutgers is coached by veteran Fred Hill who has a 36-year career mark of 1,061-719-9 record. Rutgers was swept three games last weekend at Miami.
Rutgers is scheduled to throw Rob Smorol (LHP) on Friday, Tyler Gebler (RHP) on Saturday and Charlie Law (RHP) on Sunday.
Leading the Monarchs who split two games with future Conference USA rival Marshall last weekend is outfielder Josh Eldridge. The sophomore is hitting .556 with four RBI and five hits. Senior second baseman Austin McGowan is hitting .500, followed by junior infielder Tyler Urps at .333.
The Monarchs are scheduled to go with the same rotation as last weekend. Junior righthander Dean Ali starting Friday, junior lefthander Ryan Yarbrough on Saturday and freshman righthander Tommy Alexander on Sunday.
THE SERIES: Rutgers leads the series, 29-16 including a three-game sweep last year. In 2010, the Monarchs won two of three games.
The Monarchs travel to Richmond on Tuesday and VMI on Wednesday of next week before
coming home for a three-game weekend series with Temple.
