Home Run Lifts VCU Over Old Dominion
MANTEO, NC (Apr. 24) -- Just hours after appearing in COLLEGIATE
BASEBALL'S top 30 for the first time since 1996, the Monarchs of Old Dominion
lost to Virginia Commonwealth, 6-4 at Coy Tillet Field, on a three-run homer by
Jason Dubois in the top of the ninth.
The loss ends the Monarchs (27-17)eight-game winning streak, while VCU is now 28-18. With the help of ten Ram walks and three hit by pitches, Old Dominion took a 4-0 lead after five innings. Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) walked with the bases loaded to score Travis Silver(Weaverville, NC.). With the bases loaded in the second inning Jason Griener (Wexford, Pa.) scored as David Vilardi (Fishkill, NY.) was hit with a pitch. Freshman Jesse Thomas Vetnor, Pa.) scored on Ross Robertson's groundout. In the fifth Jeff Eure(Pillow, Pa.) got the Monarchs first hit of the game, scoring Tim Hummel from second. The Rams got on the board in the sixth as Cory Bauswell hit a two-run homer. In the seventh Dubois walked with the bases loaded to force home Chris Gerrity. Bo Acors pitched five innings of relief for the Rams, fanning seven to pick up the win. Old Dominion is now off for exams until May 5th when they host crosstown rival Norfolk State.
