April 30, 2008

RICHMOND, VA-- ODU junior righthander Anthony Shawler has been selected National Player of the Week by CollegeBaseballInsider.com. Earlier this week, he was named CAA Pitcher of the Week. The Chesapeake native tied a school record with 18 strikeouts in a 10-0, two-hit complete game shutout over Northeastern last Friday night.

Shawler walked one batter, hit one and held Northeastern hitless until the sixth inning. At one point he fanned seven straight and no runners reached third. The 18 strikeouts ties him for the school mark originally set on April 15, 2006 by Jason Godin against Northeastern.

Shawler is now 5-2 with a 4.36 earned run average. He has 83 strikeouts in 64.0 innings of work. This is Shawler's second CAA Pitcher of the Week honor this season and first national honor.
