NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University junior righthander Jason Godin (Stafford, VA.) was selected in the fifth round by the Kansas City Royals. He was the 137th overall pick in the draft.

The 6-4, 195-pounder led the Colonial Athletic Association with 146 strikeouts in 115.1 innings. He missed Justin Verlander's (ODU'04) single season mark by just Five.

Godin compiled an 8-3 overall record with a CAA leading six complete games, two shutouts (against George Mason and Northeastern). Godin was named COLLEGIATE BASEBALL's National Player of the Week twice.

Godin fanned 17 batters against Navy on Feb. 18, then broke the school record he shared with Verlander when he registered 18 punch outs against Northeastern on April 15. Godin earned second team All-CAA honors this season.

Earlier in the draft, first team All-CAA pitcher Adam Ottavino of Northeastern was the 30th overall pick in the first round by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Godin is the 22nd Monarch selected in the first ten rounds and the 11th to be picked in the first five rounds. The highest ever were Justin Verlander as the second overall pick in the 2004 draft and Wayne Gomes fourth overall in the first round in the 1993 draft. Verlander is now a starter with the Detroit Tigers.
