NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University red-shirt sophomore catcher Joe Velleggia was selected by the Baltimore Orioles as the fifth pick of the 42nd round today. The native of Monkton, MD. hit .281 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 20 games. Overall, the 6-6, 230 pounder was the 1,256 pick in the draft.

This season, Velleggia hit home runs against St. Joseph, George Mason, Liberty and James Madison. He had two RBI in games against St. Joseph's, and Liberty, as well as five multiple hit games.

One of ODU's incoming recruits, Jonathan Rodriguez from Manatee Junior College was selected in the 17th round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
