MEMPHIS, TN-- Old Dominion University Sports Hall of Famer Wayne Gomes ('93) pitched one scoreless inning in the AAA Baseball All-Star game for the International League.

The IL defeated the Pacific Coast League, 13-9. Gomes, the fourth overall pick of the first round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1993 is currently 4-2 for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He has a 2.25 earned run average with 40 appearances, 13 saves and 38 strikeouts in 44 innings of work.

Gomes pitched in the major leagues from 1997-2002, mostly for Philadelphia. He pitched for San Francisco in 2001 and with the Boston Red Sox last year.

Gomes and his Red Barons visit Hampton Roads, July 21-24 when they take on the Norfolk Tides at Harbor Park.
