Dan Hudson Traded to Arizona For Edwin Jackson
July 30, 2010
CHICAGO -- Former ODU pitching standout Daniel Hudson ('08) has been traded along with minor leaguer David Holmberg from the Chicago White Sox to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Edwin Jackson. No announcement has been made as of yet on Friday's starter for the White Sox, taking the place of the traded Hudson. Lucas Harrell, who is on the White Sox 40-man roster and on turn to pitch Friday, could be called up from Triple-A Charlotte to make the spot start. Hudson was 1-1 thus far this year with a 6.32 ERA. He fanned 14 batters in 15.2 innings of work. Hudson is was 11-4 with the White Sox AAA affiliate Charlotte Knights before getting the call on July 10. He compiled a 3.47 earned run average with 108 strikeouts in 93.1 innings of work. Opponent hitters were only batting .228 against the two-time All-CAA pitcher. Dan was 20-14 at ODU with a 3.79 ERA and ranked third all-time at ODU in career strikeouts with 295, behind two other ODU Major Leaguers,Justin Verlander with 427 ('04) and Kevin Bearse with 329('87). The 2006 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American led Princes Anne High school to the 2005 Virginia AAA State Championship. In 2009 Hudson made six appearances and two starts for Chicago with a 1-1 record and a 3.38 ERA. Hudson was MLB.com Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Year last year as he was 14-5 with a 2.32 ERA. Jackson might not want to pick out a permanent residence in the Windy City quite yet. With the Nationals interested in the right-hander and the White Sox interested in first baseman Adam Dunn, who would serve primarily as a designated hitter for the South Siders, general manager Ken Williams could flip Jackson to Washington in exchange for the left-handed slugger. In a text to MLB.com Friday afternoon, Dunn said he was still a member of the Nationals and had not heard anything to the contrary.
