Jeff Capel III






Jeff begins his first season on the Monarch staff. A four year starter at Duke University, he completed his career with 1,601 points for a 12.4 per game avearge along with 433 career assists and 220 career three-pointers. He ranks third all-time in Duke history in three-pointers, fifth in three-point field goal percentage at .398. He is 13th all-time in ACC three-point history.

"I am very excited about getting into the coaching profession," said Jeff, III. "I have always felt that as a player I was a coach on the floor, because I had an understanding of the game. This is a great opportunity to coach with my dad who I respect and look up to. I look forward to the opportunity to help others become better players, better people, and to help Old Dominion be successful."

As a freshman, he started 28 games as the Blue Devils reached the 1994 NCAA Championship game, losing to Arkansas. As a senior, Capel helped lead Duke as a number two seed where he scored 27 points in a first round win over Murray State and 26 points in the second round loss against Providence.

Capel scored a career high 28 points against Virginia in 1995 and hit five three-pointers in a game twice. The 6-4 Capel earned NCAA Tournament All-Regional honors both as a freshman and senior. In 1997, he was selected to the ACC All-Academic squad.

Since graduating from Duke , Capel has played in the Continental Basketball Association for the Grand Rapids Hoops in 1997-98 and 1999-00, as well played in France. He graduated from Duke University in 1997 with a degree in history.
