NORFOLK, VA--The backcourt of Michael Hall,III and Kannon Burrage combined for 49 points to lead the Roadrunners of UT San Antonio to a 79-70 victory over Old Dominion in the third round of the Liberty Tax Classic, presented by Athletes In Action played at the ODU Ted Constant Convocation Center.

In the other contest Dave Dudzinski and Justin Burrell both hit two free throws in the final 17 seconds to lead Holy Cross over Morgan State, 74-73, giving UTSA the Tournament Championship. Holy Cross and UTSA finish at 2-1, but UTSA defeated Holy Cross 60-56 Saturday. Anthony Hubbard led Morgan State with 17 points, while Dave Dudzinski socred 20 along with eight rebounds for Holy Cross.

The Monarchs had four players in double figures led by freshman guard Aaron Bacote (Hampton, VA.) with 15 points, followed by sophomore Dimitri Batten (Newport News, VA.) with 11, and Donte Hill (Virginia Beach, VA.) and Richard Ross (Wichita Falls, TX.) with 10 points each.

Hale, the tournament MVP finished with 29 points, hitting 10-for-14 from the field, while Burrage scored 20 points. UTSA hit 50 percent from the field (27-54) and .462 (12-26) from the three-point area. ODU was .354 (23-65) from the field.

ODU's Bacote hit five-of-seven shots from the floor, including two three-pointers. Fellow freshman Keenan Palmore (Stone Mountain, GA.), who was selected to the All-Tournament team dished out five assists along with nine points and a game high tying seven rebounds.

UTSA led by 14 in with 10:02 left in the first half, but the Monarchs rallied and a Richard Ross dunk Put ODU up 36-35 with 2:07 left in the half. UTSA then got a three-pointer and a another bucket by Kannan Burrage to go in at halftime with a, 40-37 lead.

 

 

In the second half, ODU cut the Roadrunner lead to one, 53-53 with 11:30 remaining on a layup by freshman Deion Clark (Naples, FL.), but Hale came right back with a three-pointer to give UTSA a four point lead.

The Monarchs would cut the lead to five twice, 73-68 with 1:18 left after a Bacote basket and 75-70 with 28 seconds left after a Palmore basket, but could get no closer.

The Monarchs outrebounded UTSA,43-34 as Keenan Palmore and Donte Hill both hauled down seven rebounds, followed by Richard Ross and Nick Wright (Suffolk, VA.) with six each.

The Monarchs return to action next Saturday in Cleveland, OH when they take on Cleveland State.
