Despite a career-high 25 points from Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC), the Old Dominion men's basketball team fell to East Carolina 75-67 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center Saturday night in non-conference action. The loss moves Old Dominion's record to 1-4 and improves ECU to 5-0.

Gabriel Mikulas led the Pirates with 22 points and scored the go-ahead basket to break an early 2-2 tie to put his team up for good. ECU scored the first basket of the game and never trailed after holding the Monarchs to 38% (26-68) shooting and forcing 17 ODU turnovers.

Old Dominion kept the score close throughout the game, pulling to within three, 70-67, with 19 seconds left after Isaiah Hunter (Charlotte, NC) made one of two from the foul line. However the Pirates made six of their seven free throws from then on to stay ahead and seal the game.

ODU did win the battle of the boards by a 46-29 margin, with Ricardo Marsh (Mebane, NC) leading the way with 11. Alex Loughton (Perth, Australia) dropped in 14 points with nine rebounds, six offensive.

Derrick Wiley added 20 points and six boards for the visitors who made 15-19 from the charity stripe.

The Monarchs are home again next Saturday when they host the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore at 7:00 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
