MONARCH SEEDS IN THE CAA TOURNAMENT 2002 Sixth 2001 Five 2000 FiveTHIS DAY IN ODU HISTORY March 2, 1977, ODU defeats Georgetown, 80-58 in the ECAC South Finals. Freshman All-American Ronnie Valentine scored 36 and ODU's first Div. I All- American Wilson Washington scored 18 points and hauled in 11 rebounds. March 3, 1997- Two-time CAA Player of the Year, Odell Hodge scored 16 points and Mike Byers added 14 to lead ODU to a 62-58 overtime win over JMU in the CAA Championship. March 4, 1995 - Old Dominion defeated George Mason, 110-94 as Mario Mullen scored 31 points and David Harvey hauled in ten rebounds....In 1989 Chris Gatling scored 36 points (23 in the second half and six in overtime), but ODU lost to UAB in the Sun Belt Semi-Finals, 89-87.
PAST CAA TOURNAMENT RESULTS 2000-01 W William & Mary 53-47 (OT) DID YOU KNOW? The CAA is one of only three Division I Conferences (out of 31) to have all of its members with at least five league victories. Only one other time in CAA history (1999-2000) have all league members finished the season with at least five conference wins. The CAA is also one of just three Division I conferences (along with theSEC and Southern) to have all of its members with at least 10 overall victories. SERIES VS. VCU ODU leads, 32-29, but the Rams won both games this year. VCU defeated ODU 79-77 in overtime at ODU, then defeated the Monarchs in Richmond on Feb. 9, 73-66. First Meeting:1968-69, ODU won101-69. ODU's last win over the Rams: 77-65 in Norfolk last year.

MONARCHS VS. CAA TEAMS WRIGHT AND MARSH Rasheed Wright is the only Monarch who has started all 28 games...Ricardo Marsh did not start against Drexel. Marsh now has 888 career points thus far. Nine different Monarchs have started atleast two games this year. MARCUS DREWRY Junior Marcus Drewry (Evanston, IL.) Missed the first half of the season recovering from surgery to repair an unhealed stress fracture in his right foot. Drewry was born in nearby Portsmouth, VA.. His mother Karen was a Virginia High School League All-Star. She once scored 68 points in a game, and in 1988 helped Hampton University win the NCAA Div. II National Championship. She is HU's fourth all-time assist leader with 352.

The Senior guard Pierre Greene was selected to the CAA pre-season men's basketball All-CAA team by the league's head coaches and media in attendance at media day on Oct. 31 in Baltimore, MD. As a team, the Monarchs were picked to finish seventh. He has 911 career points. He scored the final ODU basket in the the fieldhouse. WALK-ON'S: The Monarchs have two walk-ons in sophomore Andreas Themistocleous (Nicosia, Cyprus) and junior Samir Hickson (Collegeville, Pa.). Themistocoleous appeared in 15 games last year, including a career high seven points against Taylor's Stanford squad in the Puerto Rico Shootout, and has thus far played in 14 games this season. Hickson got into the Coastal Carolina game. GLOBAL SPECTRUM TO MANAGE CONSTANT CENTER Old Dominion University has selected the Philadelphia based firm Global Spectrum to manage the 8,600 seat Constant Convocation Center, which is slated to open in late fall of 2002. The highly regarded company provides management for public assembly facilities across the country, most notably the First Union Center, which is home to the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, as well as facilities at Temple, South Carolina and Rhode Island.
