RICHMOND, VA-- Alex Loughton (Perth, Australia) is one of five student- athletes who excelled both athletically and academically, and have been honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as recipients of the CAA Scholar-Athlete Award for the winter sports.

Loughton was selected to the NACDA 1-AAA Scholar-Athlete men's basketball team and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. The business marketing major was named to the CAA All-Academic team in men's basketball for the second year in a row and was nominated for the league's Dean Ehlers Leadership Award.

The 6-9 Loughton had a sensational season on the court, being selected as the CAA Player of the Year and Tournament MVP after leading ODU to its first league title and NCAA appearance since 1997.

Loughton was also an honorable mention AP All-American, an NABC All- District 4 first team selection, a member of BASKETBALL TIMES' All- Mid Atlantic region squad, and Player of the Year in the state of Virginia by the RICHMOND TIMES DISPATCH.

Loughton averaged 14.1 points per game and was second in the CAA with 8.2 rebounds. He had 13 double-doubles this season which includes 28 points and 11 rebounds in the CAA finals against VCU, and 22 points and 11 rebounds against Michigan State in the NCAA first round.
