Marshall coach Tom Herrion knows Old Dominion basketball. He spent four years as a Virginia assistant. One of his aides, Mark Cline, worked for five years at Old Dominion under former coach Jeff Capel.

"I'm very familiar with the history of the program," Herrion said Thursday.

For that reason, Herrion expects when the Monarchs join Conference USA in 2013, they'll immediately be among the league's heavyweights.
