    NORFOLK, VA. (Nov. 18, 2000) -- Old Dominion University put 12 players in the scoring column to defeat Gardner-Webb Saturday night, 84-57 in their season home opener. Junior guard Pierre Greene (Chicago, ILL.) led the way with 14 points, while Andre McCullum (Whiteville, NC) scored 12 and Michael Williams (Thomasville, Ga.) added ten. ODU is now 1-0, Gardner-Webb drops to 0-2.

    Sophomore forward Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC.) hauled in a career high 11 rebounds for the Monarchs who outrebounded the Bulldogs, 50-37. Freshman Troy Nance dished out eight assists in his collegiate debut.

    Gardner- Webb was by Carlos Webb with 22 points (he scored17 in the first half. Kerek Taylor added 12 points. The Bulldogs shot .328 (20-61) from the field, while ODU shot 31-67 (.463). The 27- point margin was the largest of the game.

    In the first half, Gardner-Webb led by as many as five early, 11-6 with 13:43 left. ODU took the lead for good on a Pierre Greene layup, 22-20 with 8:34 left in the half.

    Gardner-Webb travels to Murray State on Monday, while the Monarchs hit the road to George Washington on Monday night.
