MANHATTAN, Kan (AP) (Dec. 22) - Lavar Hemphill scored 14 points and Andre McCullum added 11, but Kansas State held on to defeat the Monarchs, 68-64.

Kansas State (6-3) broke a two-game losing streak, but it didn't come easy.

Galen Morrison made two free-throws with 1:28 left to put the Wildcats up 63-58, but Morrison was called for a technical foul with 59 seconds remaining.

McCullum then made 1-of-2 free throws to bring Old Dominion (4-7) within two at 63-61. Kansas State held on at the free-throw line, making eight of its final 10 foul shots in the last two minutes.

The Wildcats made 7-of-19 3-pointers in the contest. Cortez Groves scored 21 points and Kelvin Howell added 12 to lead Kansas State.

Morrison finished with 13 points and seven assists and Travis Reynolds added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats.

Groves was 6-of-9 on 3-point shots, and his fifth trey gave Kansas State a 35-25 halftime lead.

The Wildcats, behind eight rebounds and a block by forward Tony Kitt, held Monarchs' center Skipper Youngblood to four points on 2-of-7 shooting in the first half.

Old Dominion shot just 37 percent in the first half, while the Wildcats made 48 percent of their shots.

The Monarchs return to action on Dec. 29 when they host crosstown rival Norfolk State at 7:35 p.m. in Scope. It is the first meeting between the two schools since 1981-82.
