SERIES VS.FAIRFIELD Fairfield leads the series, 1-0. The Stages beat ODU last year in the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, CT, 59-51. Derek Needham led Fairfield with 19 points. Nick Wright led ODU with 10 points followed by Batten with nine. Fairfield is a member of the Metro Athletic Conference which includes Canisius, Loyola, Rider, Iona, Marist, St. Peters, Niagara, Manhattan, and Siena. Both Fairfield and ODU competed in the Collegeinsider.com Postseason Tournament last year. ODU lost to eventual champion Mercer in the quarterfinals and Fairfield lost to Mercer in the semi-finals. NOTE: All nine Monarchs who have played thus far have started atleast three games with Donte Hill being the only Monarch who has started all 12 games this season. LAST GAME Sophomore Dimitri Batten scored 14 of his career-best 23 points during a 21-4 second-half run as ODU stunned Virginia 63-61 in the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic in the Richmond Coliseum and ending a nine-game losing streak. UVA has now lost to three CAA teams (ODU,Delaware and George Mason) Besides Batten's 23 freshman Aaron Bacote added, senior Donte Hill added 12 points with three assists and senior DeShawn Painter scored his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Richard Ross also hauled in a career high nine boards. ODU held UVA to .396(21-53) shooting from the field, while the Monarchs shot .385 (20-52). The Monarchs again outrebounded an opponent, 39-32 and only committed seven turnovers. The Monarchs played shorthanded without red-shirt senior co-captain Nick Wright who has been ill and freshman guard Keenan Palmore suffered a concussion in the College of Charleston game. NOTE ODU's nine-game losing streak was one shy of the school's Division I mark of ten set during the 1986-87 season. The overall single season mark is 14 set In 1941-42 season. The mark over two seasons is 16 set over the 1940-41 season into the 1941-42 year.
