Greene Leads Monarchs To Win Over AU, 61-53






NORFOLK, Va. (Jan. 6) - Junior Pierre Greene (Chicago,ILL.) scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 61-53 CAA victory over American University on Saturday night (Jan. 6) in the fieldhouse. ODU is now 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. The Monarchs have won five of their last seven games.

Trailing 26-23 at halftime, ODU opened up the second half with a 17-9 run as Greene scored eight of those points. The Monarchs forced American into 28 turnovers even though the Eagles outrebounded Old Dominion, 37-21.

Greene has scored 20 -plus points in four of his last six games and 19 or more points in five of his last six games. Andre McCullum (Whiteville, NC.) led ODU in rebounding with seven. The Monarchs shot .600 from the floor in the second (15-25) and .523 for the game. AU shot .423 for the game (22-52).

ALL-CAA performer Patrick Doctor led AU with 18 points and seven rebounds. The win was even sweeter for Head Coach Jeff Capel as it was his birthday.

Old Dominion hosts William and Mary on Wednesday night at 7:35 p.m. in Scope. It will be the 20th anniversary of the ODU upset victory over top ranked DePaul back on Jan. 10, 1981 in Chicago.
