Old Dominion Knocks Off Dayton, 81-76






Pierre Greene skies high for two of his 20 points against Dayton.

DAYTON, Ohio (Dec. 19) - Sophomore Rasheed Wright (Greensboro, NC.) and junior Pierre Greene (Chicago,ILL.) scored 20 points each to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 81-76 victory over Dayton on Tuesday (Dec. 19).

It was the Monarchs third straight win to improve their record 4-7, Dayton, coached by Monarch alumnus and Hall of Famer Oliver Purnell is 5-4.

Old Dominion led by as many as nine (50-41) early in the second half, but the Flyers came back to lead by as many as three, 61-58.

The Monarchs took the lead for good, 69-67 on a three-pointer by Pierre Greene with 5:40 left. In all, he scored five straight points for the Monarchs. Green, Wright and Ricardo Marsh (Greensboro, NC.) all hit atleast one free throw down the stretch to secure the Monarchs first road win of the year.

ODU shot .596 (31-52) from the floor, while Dayton shot .491 (26-53). the Monarchs hit 50 percent from three- point range (9-18).

Old Dominion took a 42-36 halftime lead thanks to a three- point basket by Heath Burris (Va. Beach, Va.).

Senior Clifton Jones continues to lead the Monarchs on the boards. He hauled in eight rebounds as did Marsh.

Old Dominion travels to Chicago to Play Univ. of Illinois- Chicago on Thursday night at 8 p.m.(ET). It will be a homecoming for Pierre Greene who grew up in the Windy City.
