Richmond Edges Monarchs in Double Overtime, 77-73






NORFOLK, VA. (Jan. 27, 2001) -- Eric Zwayer's two free throws with 42 seconds left in double overtime gave Richmond the lead for good and free throws by Rick Houston and tim Faulconer propelled the Spiders to a 77-73 CAA victory over the Monarchs.

Old Dominion drops to 9-12 over all and 4-4 in the CAA while Richmond improves to 13-5 overall and 5-3 in the CAA.

Jeff Myers sent the game into the first overtime (61 all) with a three-pointer as time ran out. In the second overtime Kinte Smith tied the game at 69 with 45 seconds left after Andre McCullum's jumper at 1:02 left put ODU up three.

Greg Stevenson led the Spiders with 27 points and ten rebounds. Stevenson scored 21 second half points, including ten of UR's final 13 points of regulation.

Clifton Jones (Pleasantville, NJ.) and Pierre Greene (Chicago,ILL.) scored 18 points each. Jones also hauled in 13 rebounds. Andre McCullum scored 14 points and hauled in ten rebounds.

The Monarchs outrebounded UR, 49-32, but committed 24 turnovers.

The Monarchs return to action on Tuesday when they host East Carolna in the fieldhouse at 7:35 p.m Richmond returns to action on at home against UNCW on Wednesday.
