ODU Knocks Off VMI, 89-81

Junior guard Pierre Green scored a career high 24 points as the Old Dominion men's basketball team downed VMI, 89-81, on Saturday (Dec. 16).

The Monarchs fell behind by ten early in the first half, but fought back to claim a 41-38 halftime lead. Old Dominion stretched the lead to as many as 16 points in the second half and then held off a late surge by the Keydets for the win. The Monarchs shot .500 from the floor and .744 from the charity stripe and also outrebounded VMI 44-36.

Forwards Andre McCullum and Rasheed Wright finished with 11 points each, as did guard Heath Burris. Ricardo Marsh hauled in 10 rebounds and nine points for the victors, who will now hit the road for a showdown with Atlantic 10 power Dayton. The Flyers are coached by former Monarch star Oliver Purnell, and made an appearance in the NCAA tournament last season.

The Monarchs next home game will be Sunday, December 31, when they host UNLV at the Scope.
