Old Dominion Knocks Off Tribe, 74-54






NORFOLK, Va. (Jan. 10, 2001) -- Led by senior forward Andre McCullum's career-high 29 points, the Old Dominion men's basketball team downed CAA foe William & Mary tonight, 74-54. With the win, Old Dominion improves to 7-9 overall, 3-1 CAA. The Tribe falls to 4-9, 1-3 CAA.

Facing a Tribe team that was on fire early, the Monarchs fell behind 13-6 in the game's opening minutes, but rallied to take control of the first half. Old Dominion closed out the first stanza with an 11-4 run to put them ahead at the half, 36-25. All of this was despite the fact that the Tribe shot .733 from the floor and outrebounded ODU 13-5 in the first.

The Monarchs put the game away in the opening minutes of the second, when Pierre Greene and Andre McCullum nailed consecutive three pointers to polish off an 8-0 run which increased the lead to 19. The Tribe made several runs, but could not overcome the deficit.

On the 20th anniversary of ODU's win over #1 DePaul, several Monarchs celebrated the occassion with impressive showings. In addition to McCullum's career high, junior guard Pierre Greene scored 18 points and senior center Clifton Jones added 5 points and 9 rebounds. The Tribe was led by Jim Moran's 16 points and Tom Strohbehn's 10.

Old Dominion will return to action on Saturday, January 13, when they travel to George Mason.
