Football Monarchs Dominate Campbell, 41-14

POST GAME RECAP:
POST GAME PRESS CONFERENCE:NORFOLK, Va. - Antonio Vaughan had 191 all-purpose yards and scored two touchdowns as Old Dominion dominated Campbell 41-14 Saturday night at S.B. Ballard Stadium. Vaughan, in his Monarch debut, ran for 30 yards, picked up 97 yards receiving, and racked up 48 yards on kick returns. He caught a 43-yard pass from Thomas DeMarco on the first play of the game, and only improved from there as he scored on a 34-yard pass reception with four minutes remaining in the second quarter and later scoring on a 30-yard run to increase the Monarchs' lead to 38-7 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. Campbell scored first on a 15-yard pass from Braden Smith to Preston Dodson, capping an opening drive that saw the Camels cover nearly 60 yards. However, ODU came right back with a seven yard TD pass from DeMarco to Kai Blanco while defensively, ODU would only allow Campbell to gain three yards on their next drive and be pushed back for negative yardage on the following drive. Angus Harper gave ODU its first lead with an 11-yard score while Demarco added a seven yard scamper before Vaughan's first score of the night. Vaughan's first score of the night increased ODU's lead to 28-7 which it would take into halftime. ODU came out of halftime and tacked onto the lead with a 32-yard field goal by Jarod Brown. On the kickoff return following Brown's field goal, Keenen Terry forced the Camels' Brandon Chandler to fumble the ball with John Darr on the recovery setting up the Monarchs at the Campbell 30. On the next play DeMarco handed off the ball to Vaughan who tore 30-yards downfield for his second touchdown of the night. Jordan Cramer caught a three-yard from Smith to get Campbell on the board in the second half, but it would be the only other time the Camels would score. Brown added his second field goal of the night, with a 45-yarder to complete the scoring late in the third quarter. DeMarco finished the night 29-of-39, for 312 yards with two touchdowns through the air, and one on the ground. Lorenzo Smith led ODU with 14 carries for 65 yards on the ground while Harper had seven catches for 58 yards. Ronnie Cameron led the defense with nine tackles and half a sack, with Devon Simmons making seven stops for the Monarch defense, and Chad King collecting six tackles, including 1.5 tackles for resulting in the Camels losing 11 yards. Smith completed 20-of-40 passes for the Camels, for 172 yards and two scores.
