NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion athletics' academic success was celebrated on Tuesday night at the men's basketball game with UNC-Wilmington, which included the 13 members of the ODU Football Monarchs being honored for achieving Dean's List status for the Fall 2011 semester.

The following members of the ODU football teams were named Fall 2011 Dean's List members for achieving a 3.4 grade point average or higher:

Jakwail Bailey – Undecided
Tyler Clark - Undecided
Fred Credle – Communications
Xavier Duckett – Human Services
Dorian Jackson – Sports Management
Chad King – Business Marketing
Rob Mahan – Computer Engineering
Josh Mann – Mechanical Engineering
Jonathan Plisco – Accounting/Finance
Carvin Powell – Sports Management
Kirk Spellman – Sports Management
Charles Walls – Sports Management

Additionally, the Football Monarchs had 30 members of its roster, representing nearly a third of the squad, achieve a Fall 2011 semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

On the field this past fall, the Monarchs concluded the year at 10-3 overall and ranked No. 10 in both The Sports Network/Fathead.com and FCS Coaches Final Polls. In their first season of Colonial Athletic Association play, ODU went 6-2 in conference play in a league that sent five teams to the post-season. The Monarchs, picked to finish 10th in the CAA Preseason Poll, ended the year in a tie for second place. ODU also made its first post-season appearance in 2011, advancing to the second round of the FCS playoffs.
