ODU Golf Kicks Off NCAA East Regional

ALPHARETTA, GA -- ODU finished day one at The Golf Club of Georgia at 26 over par at the NCAA East Regional Tournament. Senior Stan Guerrero (Tijuana, Mexico) was the steadiest of Monarchs on the tough back nine and finished tied for 35th overall at 2 over par (74). Freshman Eric Onesi (Bear, DE) finished 5 over (77) and is tied for 78th. The tournament continues tomorrow and the Monarchs will tee off at 12:12. Thirteenth ranked Georgia Tech currently leads the field with a 284 with top-ranked Georgia two strokes back at 286. ODU shot a 314 on day one and are currently 23rd overall. Guerrero had three birdies on the front nine and played par golf on nine of the ten last holes to finish with a 74. Onesi finished with one birdie on the day and a 76 while fellow freshmen Matthew Rendell (Reading, England) finished with a 79 and John Murphy (Wilton, CT) finished with an 85. The Monarchs fifth golfer, sophomore Matt Watson (Chesapeake, VA), was just one over par through the first ten holes, but struggled on the back and finished with an 84.
