Monarchs Repeat As Seascape Champions, Onesi Wins Individual Crown

KITTY HAWK, NC--Led by the play of senior Eric Onesi, Old Dominion captured the 30th annual ODU/Seascape Collegiate title for the second year in a row. Onesi, has now won two of his last three Fall events. He was the CAA Golfer of the Week two weeks ago after winning the Joe Agee title. The Bear, DE. Native who competed in the NCAA Regionals last year shot a 67 today to beat Nick MacDonald of the University Hartford by two strokes. MacDonald fired a 65 today, shooting 32 on the front and 33 on the back. Onesi was 35 on the front and 32 on the back. Cole Turner of George Washington shot 66 today to finish tied for third at 141. ODU finished the 36-hole event at 584, four strokes better than George Washington at 588. Penn finished third at 589. Another top 10 Monarchs was Sam Wall who shot 72 today to finished tied for ninth at 146. Onesi and Adam Webb of Longwood led the tournament in par 3 scoring at 2.91. He and Michael Lawrence tied for the lead with 28 total pars for the event. Onesi was third in par five scoring at 4.50 while Greg Matthias of Delaware led at 4.38. As a team, ODU was second in pars with 108, third in par 4 scoring at 4.30, tied for fourth in par 3 scoring at 3.28 and par 5 scoring at 5.07. Penn led the tournament with 28 birdies, and George Mason had 111 pars. Onesi is the sixth Monarch to ever win the Seascape title. Past Monarch winners were Billy Jahn (1981), Alan Schulte (1984), Rich Pruchnik (1986), All-American and ODU Hall of Famer Jon Hurst (1990), and Troy Thorne (1997). This was ODU's final Fall event until the spring season.
