MIDLOTIAN,VA.-Old Dominion University rising junior Jeffrey Long (Centreville, Va.)shot a 70 in the first round of the Suntrust State Open of Virginia. Long is fourth among the amateurs in the event. Ted Brown of Richmond leads the event with a 66.

Fellow Monarch Seth Norman (Virginia Beach, VA.) shot a 78.

Long shot a 36 on the front nine and 34 on the back. While he is tied for ninth overall he is the fourth Among the amateurs in the event. Roger Newsom of Virginia Beach and Tony Good of Glenn Allen both Shot67's, while Matt Ball of Richmond is at 69. Long finished the regular season at ODU with a 73.3 Stroke average.

During the season, Long was 11th in the Kauai Tournament in Hawaii and 11th at the CAA Championships. He placed 20th or better in five spring tournaments this past season.
