MIDLOTHIAN, VA--ODU rising senior Jeffrey Long (Centreville, VA.) shot a 73 Saturday for a 54 hole total of 213 at the State Open Tournament of Virginia. Long is tied for 11th with two Others, nine strokes behind Roger Newsom of Virginia Beach who is at 204. Long, who is three under par has the sixth best score among the amateurs in the event.

Long was just three strokes back going into Saturday's play. He is tied with Faber Jamerson of Pearisburg, and Hampton Ballard of Appomattox. Chip Sullivan of Troutville is at 206, Jimmy Flippen of Danville and Ted Brown of Richmond are at 209.

Long compiled a 73.3 stroke average for ODU this past season and had five top 20 finishes In the spring, including an 11th place at the CAA Championships.
