ADVANCE, NC-- Old Dominion University golfer Eric Onesi (Bear, DE.), the 2007 CAA Rookie of the Year finished third at the USGA Amateur Sectional Qualifying tournament held at the Oak Valley Golf Club with a 137 and will now advance to the USGA Amateur Championships at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, CA, Aug. 20-26.

The rising sophomore joins fellow Monarch Stan Guerrero who won the Sinking Valley qualifying tournament last week.

Onesi, who tied Guerrero with a season 72.7 stroke average shot a 68-69 for the two day score of 137 to finish third. Scott Harvey of Greensboro won the event at 133, followed by Preston Yates of Winston-Salem at 136. The top three of each sectional qualifies for the Championships.

Onesi finished second at the CAA Championships as ODU captured the title and advanced to the NCAA South Regionals. He also tied for first in the Delaware State Golf Amateur, losing in a three-hole play-off.
