Harmon & LeBlanc Lead No. 13 ODU Over Navy, 4-0
Aug. 25, 2012
NORFOLK, VA--ODU senior midfielders Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA) and Jordan LeBlanc (Haverford, PA.) both scored two goals with one assist to lead the 13th ranked Monarchs to a 4-0 season opening victory over Navy Saturday evening before a crowd of 878.
The Monarchs ranked 23rd by the NSCAA and 13th by College Soccer News.
ODU, who ranked second nationally in goals per game last year at 2.3 picked up where it left off as Harmon got on the board first with an assist from freshman Sidney Rivera (Hampton, NJ.) with less than eight minutes left in the half.
In the second half, Jordan LeBlanc scored on a penalty kick nine minutes into the match after a Navy foul in the box. Leblanc then hit Harmon in the middle of the box for the Monarchs third goal of the night with 12 minutes left and the two hooked up again with a little more than seven minutes left to complete the scoring.
ODU's defense was stellar, shutting down the Midshipmen led by junior defender Jason Gaylord (Kendall, NY.) along with All-CAA goalkeeper and pre-season Hermann Watch List selection Victor Francoz. Navy threatened early with close shots from Joseph Greenspan and Eric Skogerboe.
In addition to tonight's match being videostreamed live, the play-by-play was done by ODU Director of Broadcasting Ted Alexander and color by former Monarch All-American Jimmy Tanner ('00).
The Monarchs return to action next Saturday when they travel to Orlando, FL. To take on Central Florida.
