Asante & Hopkinson Lead No. 11 Monarchs Over No. 25 UCF
Sept. 1, 2012 ORLANDO, FL-- First half goals by Gideon Asante and Tim Hopkinson lifted the 11th ranked Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 2-0 victory over the 25th ranked Knights of Central Florida Saturday night. ODU is now 2-0 on the season. The Monarchs first goal came 14 minutes into the first half as Gideon Asante scored on an assist from Ivan Militar off a rebound. Four minutes later Tim Hopkinson scored on an assist from Asante to put ODU up 2-0. UCF outshot ODU, 20-10, but the Monarchs had more shots on goals, 7-4. ODU senior goalkeeper Victor Francoz came up with four saves and his second shutout of the season. "We managed the game very well on the road against a top Opponent. I am delighted with the result and look forward to coming home to play in our Stihl Classic Tournament in front of our fans next week," said ODU head coach Alan Dawson. ODU hosts the 37th Stihl Soccer Classic Sept. 7 and 9 with Seton Hall, Winthrop and VCU next week.
