NORFOLK, VA-- The 19th ranked Monarchs of ODU (6-1-1/1-0-1) and the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington (4-2-2/0-0-1) battled to a 0-0 tie through 110 minutes and two overtime periods.

The Monarchs outshot UNCW, 13-10 overall and 5-3 in shots on goal as goalkeeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) came up with three saves on the night. UNCW's Brock Duckworth had four Saves.

Chris Harmon (DowningtownPa.) and Ambane Emmanuel (Yaounde, Cameroon) led ODU with three shots each, while Allen Lomax, Tyler Clare and Tyler Wheaton each had two shots for the Seahawks.

Both squads had scoring opportunities, but the defense's came up with big plays.

With the shutout,his fifth, Newton is now ODU's all-time career leader with 24 shutouts. The previous mark of 23 was held by Sam Cameron from 2000-03. Newton lowers his goals against average to 0.49.

The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Williamsburg for a 7 p.m. match at William and Mary.
